Nearly every print people wish they had ordered differently is the same mistake: too small. A print that is one size down from right does not look modest, it looks lost — a stamp floating on a wall. Here is how to settle it in three measurements, before you spend anything.
1. Two thirds of whatever is underneath
If the print hangs above furniture — a sofa, a bed, a sideboard, a desk — the artwork (or the whole group of prints) should span roughly two thirds of that furniture's width. Not half. Not the full width.
Measure the furniture, take two thirds, and match it to a size:
- Sofa around 200 cm → you need about 130 cm of art. One 70×100 in landscape, or two 50×70 hung side by side, or a small gallery wall.
- Double bed, 140–160 cm → about 100 cm of art. One 70×100, or a 50×70 with two smaller prints beside it.
- Sideboard or desk, 120 cm → about 80 cm. One 50×70, or a pair of 30×40.
- Narrow console or shelf → A4 and A3 earn their place here, and nowhere else.
2. The centre goes at 145 cm
Not the top of the frame, not the nail — the centre of the artwork, about 145 cm from the floor. That is average eye level, and it is the rule galleries use. Above furniture, keep 15–25 cm of clear wall between the top of the sofa or headboard and the bottom of the frame.
If a wall looks wrong and you cannot say why, it is almost always hung too high. People hang at their eye level while standing right in front of it, then look at it from across the room.
3. Tape it out before you buy
Take masking tape and mark the exact rectangle on the wall. Live with it for an evening. It costs nothing and it is the single most reliable way to know whether 50×70 or 70×100 is the one — on a wall, in real light, at the distance you will actually look at it.

The sizes we make
Twelve, from A4 up to 100×140 cm, and every print in the gallery comes in all of them: A4, 27×35, A3, 30×40, 40×50, A2, 50×70, 61×91, A1, 70×100, A0 and 100×140 cm.
Two notes worth knowing. 50×70 cm is the size most people should be buying and the one they most often talk themselves out of — it is the classic statement size above a sofa or bed. And if you add a passepartout, the artwork inside is printed one size smaller so it fits the mount window: a 50×70 order with a mat holds a 40×50 print, and still occupies 50×70 cm of wall. Still torn between two sizes? Take the larger one. Nobody has ever hung a print and thought it was too big.
